In 1926, the four brothers took a significant step by partitioning their ancestral properties to give rise to PSG & Sons' Charities, effectively becoming the fifth brother in their legacy. The primary objective was to champion inclusive education, provide a platform for technical empowerment among the youth, and actively contribute to the welfare of the underprivileged. The inaugural institution, Sarvajana, embodied an egalitarian ethos, envisioned as a school "for all people." The PSG family's unwavering faith in the transformative power of education played a pivotal role in propelling Coimbatore into a prominent educational and industrial hub. Presently, PSG & Sons' Charities extends its influence to over 30,000 students across 30 educational institutions, offering a comprehensive array of educational opportunities ranging from kindergartens to medical education.

Shri L. Gopalakrishnan assumed the role of Managing Trustee in May 2011, emphasizing quality education and the significance of research. He promoted faculty research through initiatives like scholarships for research scholars and the creation of PSG Distinguished Professor Fellowship. Under his leadership, a Center for Excellence was established at PSG College of Technology and PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research. Additionally, a hospital was inaugurated at Karadivavi, and collaborations with U.S. and European universities were initiated.

After a long journey from their native land, Shri. Ganga Naidu along with his family founded the settlement, Poolaimedu, named after the Mound of Poolai flowers in the region
1920

For the maintenance of the modern equipment they used in their agricultural farms, the family set up a workshop at Papanaickenpalayam.

Just a few years after Graham Bell's wondrous invention, PS Govindaswamy Naidu installed Coimbatore's first telephone to manage their business establishments.
1921

On the auspicious occasion of Deepavali, the village elders of Poolaimedu along with the PSG brothers gathered to propose the establishment of a High School in the village.
1922

In order to mitigate the economic shocks of the First World War, the brothers set up Sri Ranga Vilas Ginning, Spinning & Weaving Mills.
1924

The small workshop made great headway and produced the first indigenous Centrifugal Pump.
1924

June 4, Sarvajana School - the school for the masses, opened its doors to the young learners of the Peelamedu village with 170 students.
1925

Thanthai Periyar, the rationalist leader visited Sarvajana School.
1925

PSG acquired the German Oil Expeller and ventured into mechanising agricultural operations at a time when such technologies were still in its primaeval stage.
1926

PSG & Sons' Charities Trust was born with an endowment sum of Rs. 2,01,116/-.
1926

Rabindranath Tagore visited Sarvajana School and sang the “Jana Gana Mana” which became our national anthem after independence.

The Sarvajana High School came under the Trust's care.

Foundation Stone was laid for PSG Industrial Institute at the workshop building making this historic space the nucleus of the PSG & Sons' Charities Trust.

Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of our Nation visited the PSG Institutions.

Hon. Sir. C.V. Raman, Indian Physicist and awardee of the Nobel Prize in Physics, visited the PSG Institutions.

War Technicians of World War II selected PSG Industrial Institute as their training centre.

PSG Polytechnic College was set up offering LME, LEE & LPT Programs.

PSG Industrial Institute manufactured the 1st indigenous electric motor.

PSG Primary School welcomed its first batch of students.

In order to meet the need of technical education in the growing industrial city of Coimbatore, PSG College of Technology was established.

PSG Rural Health Centres began operating at Vedapatti, Karadivavi, Neelambur to provide affordable health care services to the marginalised communities in those areas.

PSG College of Technology manufactured India's 1st variable speed electric motor.
1962

Thiru K. Kamaraj, the then Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu inaugurated the PSG Polytechnic Hostel.
1969

The Prestigious President's Award was won by PSG Industrial Institute and PSG College of Technology for import substitution of the generalised electromechanical energy Converter.
1972

PSG pioneered in usage of Computer Technology in industries for designing new products.
1974

PSG & Sons' Charities Metallurgy and Foundry division was established in Neelambur.
1976

PSG Polytechnic College was conferred with the Autonomous status.
1977

PSG College of Technology celebrated its Silver Jubilee. It was also conferred with Autonomous status.

Contest Name - Viruksham: Design of Centenary Logo for PSG & Sons’ Charities

Contest Name – Muthirai: Design of Platinum Jubilee Logo for PSG College of Technology

Submission Guidelines

The Competition is open to all the college students across India
Design for each institution (Trust & Institution) under the two Contests have to be submitted separately in the portal at https://platinum.psgtech.ac.in/ . You may participate in any one or both the logo designs.
Team size: The submission could be done as an individual or as a team. In case of a team, it should have a Team Lead , who will act as PoC for the contest. The team size may be limited to 4 members. The submission should include their name, institute‘s name & contact details of the PoC(email ID, phone number, alternate phone number and address). It is mandatory that all the participants should be from the SAME INSTITUTION. A Bona fide Certificate( Click here to download Bona fide Certificate Template ) , duly attested by the respective Head of the Institution/ Head of the Department/ Dean/ Chairperson of the Department should be submitted along with the design. Entries without Bona fide Certificate will not be accepted.
All entries must be submitted through the submission portal at https://platinum.psgtech.ac.in/ . Entries submitted through any other medium/ mode would not be considered for evaluation.
Each entry should be accompanied by a Concept Note with a brief explanation of the design (approximately 150-200 words) that tells how best it symbolizes the ethos of the two organizations.
Deadline: The last date for submission: 26 March 2025. Please check https://platinum.psgtech.ac.in/ for the updates on the submission deadline.
Entries submitted after the last date of submission shall not be considered for the competition.
The winner of the competition is required to submit the design in an editable and open file format.

Technical Parameters

Format: The logo should be submitted in digital format as high-resolution image files (e.g., .PNG, .JPG, .BMP, .TIFF).
Resolution - Resolution should be a minimum of 1000 X 1000 pixels for display screens and 300 dpi on print. The maximum file size allowed is 5 MB
All fonts should be converted to outlines/curves.
The digital file should look clean (not pixelated or bit-mapped) when it is zoomed.
It should look good in black and white, as well as in color, and maintain legibility even in small sizes.
Fonts: The font should be legible and easy to read, especially in smaller sizes or across varied media (banners, brochures, merchandise).
The Logo should be designed in color.
Multi-purpose Adaptability: Design should be used across various formats and contexts (digital, print, merchandise), and be easily scalable without losing visual impact or clarity
Usage Scenarios:The logos will be widely used across, but are not limited to, the usage:
- Official documents (letterheads, reports, brochures).
- Digital platforms (website, social media, e-newsletters).
- Signage at institutions under the trust (schools, colleges, hospitals, etc.) / key areas of the institution.
- Merchandise and branding materials
Participants should not imprint or watermark logo design.
The winner of the competition is required to submit the Design files in vector format.

Terms & Conditions

The winning designs of the two logos would be the intellectual property of the PSG & Sons’ Charities / PSG College of Technology respectively, and the winner cannot exercise any right over it in future. The prize-winning logo is meant to be used by the Trust and the Institution for branding and display purposes and also for any other use, as may be deemed appropriate, for the initiative
There would be no constraints on PSG & Sons’ Charities and PSG College of Technology to adopt the logo that is judged the winner. Also, all rights to modify the logos would be with PSG & Sons’ Charities and PSG College of Technology.
The logo must not contain any provocative, objectionable or inappropriate content.
Only ONE entry per team per Contest would be considered.
Please note that the logo designs should not violate any provision of the Indian Copyright Act, 1957. Neither the PSG & Sons’ Charities nor PSG College of Technology bear any responsibility for copyright violations or infringements of intellectual property carried out by the participants. The design of the logo /motto must not infringe on the Intellectual Property Rights of any third party.
The design must be original. Entries with high visual similarity / AI generated or assisted content would be summarily rejected and such submissions will be disqualified without notice.
PSG & Sons’ Charities and PSG College of Technology reserve the right to cancel or amend all or any part of the Contest and / or the Terms & Conditions/ Technical Parameters/ Evaluation Criteria. However, any changes to the Terms & Conditions/ Technical Parameters/ Evaluation Criteria, or Cancellation of the Contest, will be updated/ posted on https://platinum.psgtech.ac.in/ . It is the responsibility of the participants to keep themselves informed about any changes from regularly visiting to https://platinum.psgtech.ac.in/.
The responsibility to comply with the guidelines and other conditions fully lies with the participant and PSG & Sons’ Charities and PSG College of Technology shall not be liable for any dispute raised by any third party.
The logo designs should be distinct and visual similarity with existing branding materials / logos should be NIL.

Evaluation Criteria

All the entries received would be evaluated in a BLIND FOLDED manner by a jury panel consisting of highly reputed design experts.
The designs will be judged based on their visual appeal, creativity, simplicity and relevance to the institutions' missions. The decision of the selection committee would be final, binding on all the contestants and no clarifications would be issued to any participants for any of their decisions.
Shortlisted teams have to participate in the finale in-person only. Accommodation will be provided by the host institute.
At any state of evaluation, if an entry is found to violate the guidelines, the entry will be removed from evaluation process without giving any intimation.
The disqualified entries shall not be used neither by the PSG & Sons’ Charities nor PSG College of Technology for any purpose and the institutions shall have no intellectual rights over the same. Any legal proceedings arising out of the competition/ its entries/ winners shall be subject to local jurisdiction of Tamilnadu.

Rewards for the Winning Logo

A whooping cash prize of ₹50000 (Rupees Fifty Thousand only) would be awarded for the winning logo under each contest, namely Viruksham and Muthirai. Additionally, the winning logos will be used in the branding materials. Winners will also be awarded a Certificate in recognition of their achievements. This is a great opportunity for designers to showcase their skills while contributing to a historic moment for both organizations.
